About the Show

When recently divorced single mum Allie advertises for a lodger to ease financial pressure while launching her tech start-up, charming Hedy seems heaven-sent. Supportive, helpful, the perfect flatmate. But as Hedy becomes increasingly involved in Allie’s life, boundaries blur, interest becomes obsession, and what started as convenient spirals into a nightmare of manipulation and identity theft.

Rebecca Reid’s brilliant adaptation updates the 1992 film classic for 2026, exploring how Instagram, online dating, and curated digital personas have transformed the nature of obsession. Where the original dealt with identity theft through copying haircuts and clothes, this version tackles stolen Instagram accounts, fake online profiles, and the terrifying ease with which someone can steal your entire digital existence.

Full of dark humour, deadly twists, and psychological suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this is thriller theatre that speaks directly to contemporary anxieties about connection, identity, and trust in the digital age.

The Cast

Kym Marsh stars as Hedy in a performance that has earned critical acclaim throughout the tour. Best known for her 13 years as Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, Marsh has proven her theatrical range in productions including Elf: The Musical and Abigail’s Party. Her portrayal of Hedy captures the character’s transformation from supportive friend to dangerous obsessive with chilling precision.

Lisa Faulkner plays Allie, marking her return to theatre after 21 years. Known for Holby City, Murder in Suburbia, Spooks, and recently Netflix’s Missing You, Faulkner brings warmth and vulnerability to the role of the single mother who becomes Hedy’s target. She’s also familiar to millions as co-host of John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen alongside husband John Torode.

The production is directed by Gordon Greenberg (Heart of Rock and Roll, Guys & Dolls on Broadway) with set and costume design by Morgan Large, atmospheric lighting by Jason Taylor, and sound design by Max Pappenheim.

Theatre Royal Glasgow: Venue Guide

Theatre Royal Glasgow is Scotland’s oldest surviving theatre and one of Glasgow’s most prestigious venues. Opened in 1867 and beautifully restored in 1975, this 1,547-seat theatre on Hope Street has hosted everything from opera to West End musicals, dramatic plays to dance. It’s the perfect setting for the final week of Single White Female’s tour – a historic venue for a modern thriller with classic roots.

The theatre’s Victorian atmosphere and excellent acoustics create an intimate environment where every whispered threat and moment of psychological tension resonates throughout the auditorium.

Seating Plan & Best Seats

Theatre Royal Glasgow has four levels: Stalls, Dress Circle, Upper Circle, and Gallery (rarely used for commercial productions).

Best Seats for Single White Female:

Premium Choice – Stalls (Centre, Rows J-R): Centre stalls mid-section offers ideal proximity for this intimate thriller. Rows J through R provide excellent sightlines and put you close to the psychological action. You’ll see every subtle expression, every moment of growing unease. Expect to pay £40-45 for these premium seats.

Excellent Value – Dress Circle (Centre, Rows B-H): The Dress Circle offers superb elevated views with good rake. Centre rows B-H provide outstanding value at £34-38, with the bonus of seeing the complete stage picture from above. The Theatre Royal’s Dress Circle is particularly well-designed.

Budget Option – Upper Circle (Centre, Rows B-F): Upper Circle centre seats offer decent views at £22-26. You’re further away but the psychological tension and strong performances carry throughout the theatre. Good value if you’re budget-conscious.

Seats to Avoid: Far side seats in all sections (particularly seats numbered below 10 or above 30) can have restricted sightlines. The very back of Upper Circle feels quite distant for an intimate thriller.

What Critics Are Saying

As Single White Female reaches its final tour stop in Glasgow, the production has earned widespread critical acclaim. Reviews consistently praise Rebecca Reid’s razor-sharp contemporary adaptation that makes a 90s thriller feel urgently relevant to 2026 audiences.

Kym Marsh’s portrayal of Hedy has been singled out throughout the tour for capturing both the character’s surface charm and underlying menace with psychological nuance. Lisa Faulkner’s grounded, vulnerable Allie draws audiences into the nightmare, making Hedy’s transformation all the more chilling.

Gordon Greenberg’s direction maintains claustrophobic tension while allowing dark humour to breathe, preventing the piece from becoming oppressively heavy. The production design – Morgan Large’s minimalist set that transforms from welcoming to threatening, Jason Taylor’s atmospheric lighting – creates an environment where paranoia feels entirely justified.

The social media update is praised as brilliant – making identity theft about stolen Instagram personas, fake online profiles, and digital lives feels more complex and frightening than the original’s focus on physical appearance. Critics note this makes Single White Female speak directly to contemporary anxieties about online identity and digital obsession.
